Themed Weeks

Cultural Celebration Week 2026

Monday 18th May to Friday 22nd May

What a magical and enriching week we have had, celebrating the cultures, traditions and heritage woven throughout our school and local community. It has been wonderful to recognise both the similarities that unite us and the differences that make our community so special.

Throughout the week, children explored their own identities, learned about diversity within our community and reflected on the importance of challenging discrimination and promoting inclusion. These experiences sparked thoughtful discussions and encouraged children to consider how they can help create a more inclusive world.

Our learning was enriched by a range of inspiring visitors and experiences, including the Imam from Neeli Mosque, a visit to our local church, African drumming workshops and, of course, the always-popular Bollywood dancing sessions with Perveen.

It has been a memorable week of celebration, reflection and learning, helping our children to develop a deeper appreciation and respect for the diverse world around them.

Community and Contribute Week 2026

Monday 30th March to Thursday 2nd April

We were absolutely blown away by the incredible support from our school community during this week - this year we chose to focus upon careers. So many people generously gave their time to visit school and speak to the children about their jobs, their career journeys and the steps they took to achieve their goals.

This year, we placed a special focus on careers, reminding our children that it is never too early to dream big, explore their options and work towards the future they want for themselves. Throughout the week, the children were inspired by a wide range of visitors, including police officers, graphic designers, television and radio presenters, gas engineers, careers advisors, artists, an author and even a CEO. We were also incredibly fortunate to welcome the Mayor of Rochdale, who kindly took time out of her busy schedule to talk to the children about her important role and responsibilities.

Alongside thinking about their futures, the children also explored the importance of making a positive difference in the world around them today. As part of this, they took part in litter picking and tree planting activities, learning that even small actions can have a big impact on their community and environment.

The children embraced the spirit of the week wholeheartedly and many left feeling inspired, motivated and empowered, realising that the key to their future truly is in their hands.

Be Healthy, Be Safe Week 2025

Monday 6th October to Friday 10th October

What a busy and inspiring week we have had, with our children learning all about health, wellbeing and staying safe.

We were delighted to welcome one of our wonderful parents, a dentist, who spoke to the children about caring for their teeth and maintaining good oral hygiene. Active Travel for Greater Manchester encouraged some of our older pupils to think about ways to become more physically active, while the Community Nursing Team delivered engaging sessions on healthy eating and positive lifestyle choices. Some lucky children even enjoyed tasting Mr Nott’s delicious healthy cooking, learning how simple meals can be both nutritious and enjoyable.

Staying safe was another important focus throughout the week. Safety Seymour and the CO Crew taught the children about the dangers of carbon monoxide and how to stay safe at home, while Wincanton returned to deliver valuable road safety workshops around articulated wagons.

A real highlight of the week was the assembly and workshops led by Global Policing, who shared important messages about online safety with both children and parents.

We ended the week by celebrating World Mental Health Day, with children and staff wearing yellow to remind us all that looking after our minds is just as important as looking after our bodies. It was a fantastic week of learning, reflection and memorable experiences for everyone involved.

Cultural Celebration Week 2025

Monday 19th May to Friday 23rd May

This year, we took a new approach to Cultural Celebration Week. To make the experience more meaningful for our children, their families, and the wider community, we chose to centre our planning around the diverse cultural backgrounds of our pupils. Using these as a starting point, we developed a range of engaging activities that reflected and celebrated this rich heritage. The week was a tremendous success, with children not only learning about different cultures but also proudly sharing their own - creating a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere filled with curiosity, respect, and joy.

Community and Contribute Week 2025

Monday 10th to Friday 14th February

Throughout the week, our children had the opportunity to learn about the everyday heroes within our community - those who make a positive difference through their actions and dedication. They also made their own contributions, from helping care for the environment through litter picking, to adding a touch of magic to Alkrington Woods with enchanting additions to the fairy door trail.

In addition, our pupils collaborated with teachers from Middleton Technology High School to create stunning artworks, and worked alongside the Middleton Rotary Club and the Lighthouse Project. Through these partnerships, they helped raise awareness of the important work these organisations do, collected food for the local food bank, and raised funds for the Mikroshoni Orphanage in Kenya. These experiences reminded us all that we are stronger when we work together, and they helped our children grow into active, compassionate global citizens.

The response from the public has been truly heartwarming, with many embracing and celebrating the children’s efforts.

We couldn’t be prouder of how our pupils approached the week - with enthusiasm, care, and a real commitment to making a positive difference in their community.

Be Healthy, Be Safe Week 2024

Monday 7th to Friday 11th October

It’s been a busy and exciting week of learning all about how to stay healthy and safe in our community. From road safety and water safety to understanding how to care for our pets properly, our children have explored a wide range of important topics.

These lessons are not only valuable—they could one day save our own lives or the lives of those we love. One standout moment was learning how to spot the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. To help remember the dangers and how to respond, the children even got creative—writing a rap complete with funky moves to reinforce these life-saving messages in a fun and memorable way.
