Rambert Creative Dance
Our nursery is proud to be part of a pioneering project that brings the elite, world-renowned choreography and pedagogy of the Rambert Dance Company into early years settings. Through the Rambert Early Moves programme, our children are given regular opportunities to explore movement, creativity and self-expression in a joyful and engaging way.
We currently have two trained practitioners who deliver Rambert Early Moves creative dance and movement sessions for children aged 0–5. These sessions are carefully designed to support the unique developmental needs of young children through imaginative play, storytelling, music and movement.
Early Moves was developed by the Rambert Dance Company in partnership with NHS Greater Manchester and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. The programme equips early years practitioners with specialist training to embed creative movement naturally into everyday nursery routines and learning experiences.
Rather than teaching formal dance techniques or rigid routines, Rambert Early Moves focuses on play, exploration and artistic expression. Children are encouraged to move freely, experiment with ideas and respond creatively to music, stories and themes. This helps to nurture confidence, curiosity and imagination from an early age.
The programme plays an important role in supporting children’s physical development by helping them to build essential gross motor skills, coordination, balance, core strength and spatial awareness. Alongside these physical benefits, the sessions also support communication and language development, listening skills, concentration and emotional regulation. Children learn to work collaboratively, take turns, express themselves and develop positive relationships with others.
Research behind the programme highlights the strong connection between movement and early cognitive and sensory development. By developing these foundational skills in a playful and engaging environment, Rambert Early Moves helps children to feel more confident and prepared for the transition into formal education.
