Clayton Cup Final loss

It has been over 23 years since Alkrington won the Clayton Cup last and the boys were up for getting their hands on the trophy. Alkrington came into the match full of confidence after a string of good results. The match was very even, both teams showing their desire to win and playing some good football. It wasn't till the second half when the deadlock was broken and St Thomas More scored a very good goal. Alkrington continued to work hard to get an equalizer however they could not break down their opponent's defense. The game ended 1-0.

The team should not be disheartened by this result, they have come a long way from when they started together and they have a great chance of winning the league. Keep it up boys!

Alkrington Win First League Match

The team faced Hollin in their first match of the league on Tuesday at St Marys and continued their winning ways. The boys played really well, showing lots of good football, passing and moving for each other, creating chances and looking like a great team. The goals flowed and the game finished 4-0. Well done boys!

Alkrington Through to Clayton Cup Final!

The boys played St Marys "A" team after winning their first tie with their "B" team. The game was very even until St Marys managed to go 2 goals up just a few minutes before halftime. In the 2nd half it was a different game, the boys played some fantastic football and showed some great teamwork to bring the game back level at 2-2. The match went to penalties which Alkrington won - showing great spirit to come back and win after being 2 goals down. Well done to everybody involved.

The Cup final will be played on Tuesday 27th March @ St Marys.

Mixed Football Tournament @ Manchester City

A group of year 6 students represented the school in the Premier League Stars Football Tournament at Manchester City this week. Over 30 schools from all over Greater Manchester took part to see who would represent Manchester City in the national finals. The children played really well and had a fantastic time in the snow. They won 1, drew 2 and lost 2 coming 5th in their group.

Well done to everybody involved and thank you to Mrs Harrison for helping out on the day.

Boys Football Team 2017/2018

The boys football team have started well this year showing lots of potential and character in the few matches they have played. The first league game they lost to a strong St Thomas More team 6-0, however, bounced back in the Clayton Cup, beating Elm Wood on penalties and St Marys B Team 4-1 - next fixtures TBC. Well done to everybody involved!

Girls 7 a Side Tournament @ St Marys 2017/2018

The girls football team took part in the 7 a side tournament run by the MPSSA on a Thursday over a 3 week period. 10 schools took part and the girls were brilliant. Out of 9 matches, they won 4, drew 4 and lost 1. Overall the girls came 2nd giving Alkrington the Silver medals! Well done to everybody involved and thank you to Mrs Harrison for her hard work and help at training.

Girls Football Champions 2016/2017

The girls had a fantastic run of games this year, not conceding a goal in all games and reaching the final in the 9 a side cup. They faced St Peters at Alkrington and were absolutely brilliant! The girls won 4-1 overall and were crowned Middleton Girls Football Champions. Congratulations Girls and thank you to Mrs Harrison for her help and hard work with training and matches.
