Our Vision in EYFS: The "Unique Child"
Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) operates as a dynamic and progressive unit, united by the core theme of “building robust foundations for lifelong learning”.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets comprehensive standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to five years old, mandating that all registered providers, including the school, adhere to its principles. These principles, as highlighted by Birth to 5 Matters, emphasize that all children develop uniquely, requiring positive relationships and enabling environments that foster engagement and acknowledge individual strengths. This foundational belief in the "unique child" is central to our pedagogical approach.
Our EYFS provision at Alkrington Primary School encompasses three distinct yet interconnected phases: a 2-year-old provision, a Nursery class, and two Reception classes. Each phase is thoughtfully designed to meet the specific developmental needs of children at that age, while simultaneously contributing to a seamless continuum of learning. The diverse approaches employed within each age group are a deliberate strength, allowing the school to cater to individual learning styles and developmental trajectories. Below is an overview of each phase.
